Intro
Evoca is a wonderful resource for posting audio recordings. The site provides multiple ways
of storing your audio including uploading files, recording with your computer's microphone, and by using your
telephone. Here are some hints for setting up Evoca.
NOTE: this How-To is tailored to
those participating in CUE Review.

Create an Account
Before you can start posting your audio to Evoca, you need to
create an account. There are two
types of accounts:
- Free - you can store up to 60 minutes of audio
- Pro - you can store up to 200 minutes of audio, record using Skype, and pay $5/month
The sign up process ask for the basics like for you to select a user name (this is the name
that will appear with your recordings) and password. It also asks for a phone number. When you
call into to make a recording, Evoca identifies you through this phone number. Thus, it needs to
the phone that you expect to be using when making recordings and must be identifiable through
caller id (i.e. not blocked).
Once you have created your account, you can start recording!
If you are attending the CUE Conference (March 2007) and want to participate in CUE Review,
drop me an email
and I will add you to the correspondents who are members of the group CUE 2007

Specify how 'EvocaTell' phone will work for you
'EvocaTell' is Evoca's call in recording feature that allows you to post audio using your phone.
When you call in to one of several
available phone numbers, your recordings are stored according to your preferences. Evoca allows you to
setup these preferences in the
My phone preferences
section of My account.
If you are part of CUE Review, I suggest that you create the following preferences
- Automatically tag your recordings with
cue2007 and cue2007 (place each on separate lines).
- Automatically assign your recodings to the CUE 2007 group. If you have not joined the
group, drop me an email
with your Evoca username and I will set you up.
- Automatically mark your recodings as
Public
If you setup your preferences as shown above, you can call in on your phone, record your comments, and
the recordings will automatically be available for others to listen without any further work by you.

Editing your recordings

My Recordings > Edit Recording
After you post an audio recording to Evoca, you can edit that recoding to add such things as a description, or
adjust the title to be more informative. Next to each of your recording is a little edit link. If you click
that link, you are presented with a variety of ways you can customize your recording.
- Title The default title given to your postings by phone is less than informative.
It is a good idea to edit your recodings some time after you have made them so that each has a title that
helps identify it.
- Recording You can replace a recording if you want by uploading a new MP3 or WAV file.
This allows you record your commments using your phone, download the recording and edit it to your liking,
and then upload it back to Evoca, replacing the original.
- Description You can add a more detailed description to your recordings. NOTE: If you are a
member of the CUE Review team, please include appropriate Technorati tags at the beginning of your description. This will allow
Technorati to find your recording. Here are the tags to use:
<p>Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tag/cue2007">cue2007</a>
<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/cue07">cue07</a>
Don't confuse these Technorati tags with those discussed below which are purely for Evoca
- Tags While you may have setup your phone preferences to automatically add the CUE2007 and CUE07 tags,
you can add additional tags to your recoding
- Replace photo Each recoding can have a photo associated with it. Here is where you can
upload the photo
- Assign it to your Groups Be sure your CUE Conference recodings are assigned to the CUE 2007 group.
The CUE 2007 option will not appear if you are not a member of the group. To join,
send me an email with your
Evoca username.
-
- Licensing Type Kudos to Evoca for giving us the option of selecting the type of
licensing we want attached to our recordings. You can choose from the most restrictive, None (all rights reserved),
to one with no protection, Public Domain. I suggest using one of the Creative Commons choices.
-
- Security Finally, be sure that your mark your recording as Public so others
can enjoy your remarks
A word of caution... Be sure that each of the fields is properly setup when you edit a recoding.
I edited the "Welcome to CUE Review" after I had posted it to the CUE Review group but forgot to select
"Assign it to your Groups" thinking that it was already in the group, why should I need to do it again.
Wrong! By not selecting CUE Review, it removed if from the group and it took me a while to figure out
what had happened.

Getting Help
Evoca's FAQs are OK but limited.
The Help
link is not obvious and I was not impressed with its associated knowledge base. But perhaps
as participants in CUE Review, we can help each other if we get into trouble.
